About Amethyst
Amethyst, a crystalline variety of Quartz, ranges in colour from deep purple to light violet and can be transparent to translucent. Notable commercial deposits have been found in Brazil, Bolivia, India, Madagascar, Namibia, Russia, Sri Lanka, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Amethyst can be treated to produce Citrine or a green quartz called prasiolite. To differentiate Amethyst from similar materials, gemmologists use tools such as dichroscopes, polariscopes, and refractometers.
